Hair's to Summer !

It's that time again curlfriends !

The weather is getting warmer and warmer as the days pass by. Soon your kinks, coils, and curls will need even more attention.

So, how to you prepare for those summer months ?
What are things that you should add your regimen ?
How are you supposed to care for your curlies in the warmer months ?

Well, here are 6 tips to help a sista out !

Let's dive in and get your hair into tip-top shape and keep it there !

1.Take the risk, cut off that relaxer, throw down that flat iron.

Be a curly cutie and be fierce honey !

I've been privy to some information... are you ready ?

Warmer months are definitely the "it" time to rock those curls girls ! Cut off that relaxer, wash, and go !

Who wants all that hair hanging around your neck making you uncomfortable ? So go ahead and make that transition.

Summer breeze caressing your scalp ? Yes please!

Summer is when all those edgy, funky, oh-my-goodness styles start blooming like spring flowers. It's a hot bold season that requires hair to do the same !

2. Let's talk about shampoo !

During the warm summer months, avoid shampooing hair more than once or twice a week. With rising temperatures, more humidity, your hair and scalp have a higher percentage of drying out and becoming a crunchy, tangled desert. So, you may want to forgo the shampoo and co-wash instead. Or at least make sure you are using a moisturizing shampoo. This is important because some shampoos may strips hair of its natural oils and cause it to dry out in the already dry summer air.

If you are a swimmer, you may want to opt for a pre-rinse with cool water and then sealing with a moisturizing penetrating oil such as Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, & Coconut Oil. Coconut oil is able to bind to the natural protein found in the structure of your hair. It helps to retain moisture and make the hair strand stronger by reinforcing it. A pre-rinse before swimming will help create a semi-barrier, creating a defense against chlorine, salt water, and other nasty chemicals. Your hair will soak up the pre-rinse water more so than the chlorine water.  Make sure you shampoo and condition right away afterwards because chlorine can be very drying.

3. Conditioner

Conditioning, co-washing, and deep conditioning will definitely be your best, best friend as the summer temperatures rise. You can co-wash and even rinse your hair daily.

Proper conditioning can help prevent breakage and frizz. A good conditioner will also coat and protect the hair shaft from humidity.  Increasing the amount you deep conditioner will also help to keep the Dryness Monster at bay.

4. H2 the izzO

You have to remember to hydrate your hair inside and out ! Which means making sure you up your intake of water along with quenching your hair's thirst whenever it needs it. Water is the key to healthy skin and hair. Remember you should always feed your hair from the inside out. Unhealthy habits reveal themselves in the hair & skin.

5. Seal the Deal !

Always, always, always seal that moisture in. All the co-washing, rinsing, and deep conditioning in the world can't save you if you don't seal the moisture in ! Keep in mind the penetrating oils and the sealing oils. Sealing oils are usually thicker in consistency than penetrating oils. (i.e. castor oil, olive oil- which also penetrates, etc.)

6. Remember the Scalp !

Don't forget that a clean scalp is key to a healthy head. Especially in the summer time! Build-up on the scalp leads to clogging, which is all bad.

What other tips or tricks have you learned and or possibly added to enhance your summertime regimen?

I sometimes use humectants, but that is a whole 'nother ball game !
